And then look at John’s watchful eyes, his protective posture. He doesn’t know why he’s here, but he knows that if anyone tries to hurt Sherlock, he WILL end it.
And the most compelling thing in this image is: John’s actually walking in front of Sherlock.
Sherlock always leads the way. And in many ways, even in this shot, perhaps Sherlock is still the leader of their duo. And yet he lets John walk in front of him, just a little, because Sherlock knows he can let John command him when John needs to, when he needs to be the soldier he is at his core.
To be Sherlock’s soldier.
